Annie Alpert

Annie Alpert has been in the data processing field since 1973, beginning with coporate mainframe DOS systems as an OS/JCL COBOL programmer. She has worked in San Francisco and New York City in consumer banking, financial accounting, quality assurance, project management and systems analysis applications. Her employers included Goldman Sachs Group, Citibank, Pacific Far East Lines and Crown Zellerbach.

She also worked as a newspaper reporter for Forbes Newspapers and freelance writer for various publications.

Ms. Alpert started selling dog figurines on Ebay in 1994. Her first e-commerce website, The Dog Collector, was created in 1996 (using FrontPage) to sell vintage dog-related art, collectibles and memorabilia. Working closely with artists like Ron Hevener and Bonnie Stepp, she designed and commissioned new dog sculptures for her target customers.

All graphic design, product photography, copywriting, search engine optimization and site maintenance was done in-house by Ms Alpert (The Dog Collector earned respectable ratings in the main search engines).

She branched out into on-line bookselling in 1997, selling antiquarian and out-of-print books on Amazon, Ebay, ABEbooks, Antiqbooks, Alibris, half.com, Barnes and Noble.com and other services.

BlueDoggyDog WebWorks is Ms. Alpert's current effort.
